Look to the Future
After the explosion of his rental property and the fight out
on the sidewalk, LTF comes under some scrutiny and is forced to shut its doors.
The injunction that Judge Putnam pens, which freezes LTF’s assets and accounts,
only hastens its decline.
Raleigh Rothschild and Judge Putnam talk on the phone shortly after your return to New York. The judge explains, in vague terms, about how nefarious the organization truly is. Rothschild is grateful that his old friend, the judge, was able to protect his money and his public image, and promises to return the favor sometime in the future. Despite everything that has happened with the group, he is still quite fond of his pan.
The Clark Brothers
All is well in New Hampshire. James calls Mikhail
periodically to talk, and Stephen splits his time working on his career in the
city and visiting with James at home.
Stephen also has time to work on his gift to the group, which he sends to Mikhail on March 5th. The painting depicts a lovely scene atop green hills. Sheep graze in the distance. Far below, you can see what looks like a river or a narrow lake. The remains of a stone wall stand in the foreground, and off to the right. A green snake suns itself on the rocks of the tumbledown wall, with Stephen’s signature carefully blended into its scales.

The Doukas’
Johnny eventually does manage to get $1,000 from the $15,000
that the group liberated from LTF’s strange telegraph room. He brings it to his
parents and tells them to use it however they see fit. Johnny’s parents,
surprised at Judge Putnam’s sudden generosity, hug and thank their son
profusely. He goes home with some nice baklava.
Trouble in Boston
The group learns that Mikey “Stiletto Mike” Angelo went
missing on the night that they left Boston. His cousin, Vito Andolini, reports
that Mikey went to work his night shift at the cemetery and has not been seen
since. Fingers are pointed at Ron, for obvious reasons, but both the facts and
Vito himself proclaim Ron’s innocence. Mr. Cacciatore, Vincenzio’s
contact/consigliere in Boston, is very upset by the loss of Mr. Angelo, and
relations between the two men grow very frosty.
Family Feud
Ron and Vivian are called into a meeting with Vince shortly
after their return from Boston. Vince
explains that he has been working up a contract with a distillery in Cannich,
Scotland to provide top-quality whisky for the American market. Vince says he
has finally gotten the “pipeline” in place. Aided by a group of complicit
doctors, he will ship the whisky to New York Harbor and then distribute it to
his clubs.
Unfortunately, Jimmy “Big Grin” Bianco has gotten wind of this plan and is now trying to poach on Bernouse territory. Vince first learned of this when the president of the distillery, a Mr. Silas Dunne, sent him a letter explaining that he had received another, better offer, and was beginning to reconsider.
Vince has decided to send his attorney, Salvatore Potafiori to Cannich to meet with Mr. Dunne in person and convince him to adhere to the previous deal. He is also planning on sending Luca and Ron as muscle. After Vivian expressed an interest in going, he also, very reluctantly, agreed to send her.

“After all, papa,” said Vivian, “you know that Bianco wouldn’t dare get up to any funny business with me there, right?”
Vince agrees that this is an interesting tactic that might curb hostilities, but he also repeatedly tells Ron and Luca not to let anything happen to his daughter. He then hands out first class tickets to the three of them and tells them to meet at the pier for the Eastern Star Line on March 12th.
Going to Scotland
The rest of the group, hearing that they now have a reason and a
cover story to go to Scotland, book their tickets and pack (or have Johnny
pack) their things. On a Friday in March, they all meet at the pier with your
luggage in tow, getting ready to take a week-long voyage across the Atlantic.
It won’t be long at all before they are in the Scottish Highlands, enjoying the
lovely bouquet of…
